Seminar on Rubber and Plastic Injection Inversion and Energy-Saving Application

RHYMEBUS promoted hydraulic machine to use hybrid electric power

All-electric injection molding machines with high speed and precision in the past not only shared about 98% market of models under 200 tons in Japan, but also developed the models under 350 tons. These days, the concept of Green and energy saving issues has become worldwide movement, and all-electric model is apparently to become the next-generation plastic injection molding machine. Some of manufacturers in Taiwan also announced their achievements of all-electric molding machine in International Plastic and Rubber Exhibition, Taipei hosted in 2008.
RHYMEBUS conducted a seminar and invited both industrial and academic specialists to participate on 18th Dec. Within the seminar, issues that were mostly concerned were the adoption of inverters’ control on all-electric models for hydraulic pump induction motor, and the adoption of PM synchronized servo drive motor for hydraulic pump energy saving project. During the seminar, Rhymebus also exhibited its achievement of PIMM machinery applications.
 
Fast frequency reduction to improve motor performance
 
Dr. Ming-Xi Huang from Department of Electrical Engineering, National Taipei University of Technology, thought that the induction motors is structurally solid, easy to manufacture at a lower cost that explained why the major power source at present machine tools, industrial machinery, mega pumps and the compressors and industrial facilities adopted the induction motor. In order to reduce the cost for a traditional hydraulic injection molding machine, the city power (220V/380V, 60Hz) drove three-phase induction motor to supply oil with a constant hydraulic injecting pump, and proceed to adjust the injecting pressure and the flowing rate via servo and relief valve.
 
It is designed to be constant, nevertheless, in reality, in the process of mold clamping, injection, packing and cooling, molding and clearing, the pressure and flowing rate of oil pumps are changing rather than remaining constant. As the result, the waste of energy consumption is very likely caused by motor which kept running around the clock. The waste is especially significant while waiting the pause for the next injection period, and it is the most significant while idling for cooling, which takes more than 75% overall power consumption.  If it is able to make use of cooling mold and clearing (light load) after injection, the precisions of inverters, and higher dynamic feedback speed by PM motors or servo motor to reduce RPM to offset the release flow of oil, then it is able to drop the hydraulic temperature for about 5~15°C and to achieve the goal of energy saving simultaneously.
 
Japan Fanuc Roboshot is a good example of all-electric injection molding machines in the past. Three-phase induction motor and hydraulic pump were changed as servo motor and drive system to further recycle the power of dynamic energy from motor deceleration, which can reduce16% of power consumption during clamp; although it was obvious for the effects of high speed, accuracy, energy-saving and environmental protection, the purchasing cost was expensive because injection machines must be reinstalled and adjusted. Fewer Taiwan manufacturers really produced. In addition, energy-saving technology dominated by Daikin used PM synchronization motor servo system to replace hydraulic pump which is driven by induction motor, servo valve and relief valve. Although efficiency during light load was lower than that for all-electric model, it is greater than inverter control for about 30%; because the current system must be fully installed, the price can’t compete with the latter.
 
Unchangeable structure and energy saving
 
In a hypothesis that plastic injection machines were not changed, an inverter was installed at the front end of hydraulic pump motor to modify input frequency and voltage as well as accelerate/decelerate motor rotation speed according to speed and pressure commanded by the system at any time; it not only simultaneously replaced hydraulic servo valve and relief valve to adjust pressure and flow, but also minimized the cost and efficiently enhances power efficiency 25~65%. In the same processing condition, the input power of traditional hydraulic injection molding machine reduced about 43.9%, which would greatly reduce current of power device in plant; moreover, 0.85~0.95 power factor was improved before an inverter installed to an inductor.
 
Inverters for hybrid electric model should provide the characteristics of high overload, heat dissipation, better dynamic response, low-speed output torque and ability to adjust parameters to meet the requirements of violent motor rotation. We also had accumulated abundant experience with manufacturing industries, complete engineering support manpower, adjustment and achievement; recently, hundreds of hydraulic injection machines, including VICTOR Taichung Machinery Works Co., Ltd. and TAIWAN UNION PLASTIC MACHINERY CO., LTD, were installed in Taiwan and Mainland China.
 
Although the economic recovery doesn’t meet the expectation, the demands in Mainland China, East Europe, Brazil and Middle East are increasing. When European countries and USA could save the cost to run the market of old machine at any time, it is time for inverter manufacturers in Taiwan to closely control business opportunity.
